Walter Hooper

I participate in a C.S. Lewis group on Facebook. Yesterday we learned that Walter Hooper passed away. He was 89, and ailing. What a tremendous contribution he made to C.S. Lewis’s legacy!

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Love will last forever.” (1 Corinthians 13: 4-8)

Yes, he apparently died yesterday, and the date of his death was already inserted into his Wikipedia page by yesterday evening: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Hooper.

Regards,

So when Lewis died Hooper was only a bit past 30.

We certainly owe Hooper a very great deal.

Indeed. He had his quirks (I’m pretty sure the idea of the perpetual virginity of Jack originates with him), but nonetheless brought a great deal to our understanding.
