The title of Lewis’s sermon, “The Weight of Glory” is presumably taken from 2 Corinthians: 4,17: “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (King James translation).
I’ve recently finished translating the Russian book of scriptural meditations, “Day by Day”, which may be published soon. I’ve also made video recordings of these meditations for our parish, which are posted every Monday and Friday on our parish website. Today’s video is a meditation on that verse from St. Paul. In Russian, the verse is translated as “For our short-term and light suffering creates an incalculable excess of eternal glory” (the phrase “weight of glory” is also sometimes rendered by different words in other English translations). Here is the link to the video, which also contains the English and original Russian text: 2024.06.09. Meditation on 2Corinthians 4:17 (An Excess Of Glory) | RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL OF ST.JOHN THE BAPTIST.

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Love will last forever.” (1 Corinthians 13: 4-8)
