Regards,

Dear Manuel,

Your post about the book that purports to present “proofs” for the existence of a creator is really well written and informative with, to me, one glaring problem from the get-go.

Near the beginning of your post you state that science can never prove or disprove the existence of a creator. This is an assertion I tend to agree with, but not for the reason you give. You state that science is a study of the observable material universe and, you say, "God is not in the material world, He is not part of it.”

But numerous passages of Scripture seem to me to argue against this! We are told repeatedly that God is everywhere, and that he is “in all things” and that he is “in all and through all” and “in Him we live and breathe and move (or exist).”

So, logically, I don’t think you can separate God the creator from his creation in any meaningful way. But I still agree that science cannot ever get to the place where there will be an actual scientific proof of “the ghost in the machine” so to speak. Jesus can stand before a man and do miracles all day, but that does not prove either the existence of god or that he is the son of god. In the end, that man must have faith that either is true. It’s an “interpretation.” It’s not “empty” faith the man needs to have, but faith is ultimately required if he is to believe either thing.

I think we are not disagreeing. You say that God is everywhere (“in all things”), but this obviously means spiritually, not materially. So what I said, that God is invisible to science, is true. And you are right, faith is needed to believe in God. That’s what I mean when I say that God’s existence is an axiom for believers.
