Hey, all, if you don’t hear from me for a week or two when something comes up that you would expect me to weigh in on (Creeds, anyone?), just know that I am in the crosshairs of Hurricane Milton, which is due to hit here in just a few hours. Two years ago, when I first moved to Florida, Hurricane Ian did almost exactly the same thing, I was incommunicado for week! I would not reject anyone’s thoughts and prayers, no matter his or her devotion or lack of devotion to any Creed! My property is on the edge of where I could be affected by storm surge, but I am staying put and hoping for the best.
Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers (including Dan’s creed-appropriate ones!). We did not flood, our house is fine, our roof undamaged, even our pool cage made it. A lot of greenery did not fare so well, sadly; I’m most saddened by my three, 1-year-old heirloom papaya trees.
Power is still out, and it may be days before it comes back on. I do have a generator, but not yet one I can run through the electrical panel to get whole house power, including internet and air conditioning; but thank god it’s not August! But I can run cords to things, especially refrigerators and freezers! And we still have running water, unlike the last hurricane.
So, that’s two “once in a century” level hurricane in two years. So, hey… I think I’ve done my part. Give me a break! I mean, I knew that by moving to Florida that I would have to experience a hurricane here and there, but this is different than past years in this location.
So thankful you and your home were spared, Mike! I grieve for your trees. I was raised in Somalia; we had a papaya, mango, and guava trees which were luscious fruit.
