Human Dignity: Religion, Politics, or Natural Morality?

Regards,
My pastor frequently cites (unbeliever) Tom Holland’s Dominion for the proposition that the concept of “universal human rights” exists only in places where Christianity has been prevalent. And it makes sense–only if man is created in God’s image does have inherent and unique dignity, and therefore only under that view does (or should) he possess any inherent rights.
Therefore, as the West increasingly rejects God, it’s unsurprising that the concept of human rights will be turned on its head.
You are right. The UN declaration of human rights was approved when most of the countries now existent were colonies of Western countries, which at that time were still mainly Christian. Today many of those rights are being violated and replaced by “new” rights, such as the right to kill your unborn babies.
I wrote about this in a previous post with Lewis content: https://populscience.blogspot.com/2022/06/the-abolition-of-man.html
